The Central Districts Cancer Society is looking for a Health Promoter/Health Educator to join its team making a difference in the lives of people with cancer.

This position is located in Palmerston North.

The Cancer Society Manawatu is looking for someone to fill the role of Health Promoter/Health Educator.

The permanent part-time position is 25 hours a week based in Palmerston North.

We’re looking for a team member passionate about improving the health and wellbeing of the Manawatu, Horowhenua, Feilding and Tararua communities.

The successful candidate will be joining a small energetic and dedicated team in the Palmerston North office.

It is the Cancer Society’s mission to be the leading organisation dedicated to reducing the incidence and impact of cancer in our community through the provision of health promotion, support services, advocacy and research.

The purpose of the role is to:-

  • Facilitate community health improvement that delivers Cancer Society of NZ policy, programmes/projects to reduce the incidence of cancer and improve community health and wellbeing.
  • Partner with community groups to build opportunities to raise community cancer health literacy for people to be informed and have greater access to cancer prevention and risk reduction, education, and early detection services.
  • Work closely with other sectors to create or advocate for environments that enable people, families and whānau to enjoy healthier lifestyles. 

The ideal candidate will be able to easily build relationships and can connect with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds and have outstanding community and business networks.

You’ll have exceptional planning, task and time management skills, have an eye for detail and demonstrate a high level of ownership and commitment to achieving results.  You will also use effective methods to determine priorities, set goals, create a plan, take action and measure results.

The ability to combine effective approaches from various disciplines to develop community based initiatives and mobilize resources is also a plus.
