The Cancer Society Central Districts Division is recruiting for a Shuttle Driver for its Taranaki Centre.

The role is located in our New Plymouth office and is a permanent part-time position of minimum 20 & up to 30 hours per week.

This role will see the successful candidate transporting Cancer Society clients between Taranaki and Palmerston North, typically two days a week, however this may vary to include a third day from time to time, depending on client appointments and treatment schedules.

The purpose of the role is to ensure regular, safe, comfortable and a supportive transport service is provided for clients and their whānau and carers who are referred to Palmerton North for cancer related medical treatment.

The vision of the Cancer Society is to be the leading organisation dedicated to reducing the incidence of cancer and ensuring the best cancer care for everyone in Aotearoa New Zealand.

The role is ideally suited to a retired bus driver or similar, therefore we are looking to recruit someone with a clean and current driver’s licence with ‘Passenger Endorsement’ or a former P class licence holder, willing to gain P endorsement and meet that criteria again.

Experience driving small passenger vehicles is desirable as is basic mechanical/vehicle maintainence skills.  Emergency care and a basic first aid certificate or relevant experience is required.

Willingness to work on some public holidays and good computer and mobile phone skills are necessary – largely for emails, phone calls and texting.

On top of this we are looking for someone who is patient and can connect well with people from diverse backgrounds, you must be able to show consideration for the needs of cancer clients and have empathy for people who are under personal stress.

Your planning and organisation skills will be top notch as will taking pride in the appearance of the Cancer Society vehicle.
