“I finally knew what I was fighting.” - Jenni, breast cancer patient

When Jenni’s breast cancer was discovered during a mammogram, she felt a surprising sense of clarity.

“It made sense to me. I finally knew why I’d been feeling so unwell. I knew what I was fighting.”

Her treatment included a complex 14-hour surgery, followed by radiation therapy a demanding path that required time, patience, and support.

During radiation, Jenni stayed at the Cancer Society’s Domain Lodge in Auckland.

“It’s just amazing. You’re with people going through the same thing, and there’s a general understanding. You can laugh, really laugh, and no one thinks it’s inappropriate. You’re in it together.”

The Lodge wasn’t just a place to rest it became a community where Jenni found comfort, understanding, and strength.

“My husband Keith had prostate cancer, and I was his carer, so I’d already seen what treatment could be like. We stayed at Domain Lodge then, too. It helped me not to be afraid when it was my turn.”

For Jenni, and thousands of others, the Cancer Society provides more than medical support — they offer a safe place to stay, free nursing care, transport to treatments, counselling, and a community of hope.

Will you help make sure these vital services are always available?
