Shortly after I heard about my diagnosis I started meditation at Addis House, here in Palmerston North. I have met some lovely people through this.

Allan

Hi my name is Allan and I’ve been through a journey with bowel cancer.

30 years of Daffodil Day 30 years of Daffodil Day

I was diagnosed in June last year and went through a course of radiation and chemotherapy before having surgery for a bowel resection. While on the operating table I suffered a major stroke. This meant a four week stay in ICU and three weeks in rehab.

I am currently recovering from a second stroke, but I’m now cancer-free.

Shortly after I heard about my diagnosis I started meditation at Addis House, here in Palmerston North. I have met some lovely people through this. When I am fully recovered I would like to do some voluntary work.

30 Stories for 30 Years

In 2020 the Cancer Society celebrated the 30th anniversary of Daffodil Day.

It also marked a 30 year relationship with ANZ as the Principal Sponsor of Daffodil Day. We want to thank the team at ANZ for their amazing support.

To acknowledge this we found 30+ people to tell their story. These stories talk about the generosity of everyday New Zealanders making a difference for people with cancer. They talk about the effect of cancer on people and on whānau, they talk about hope, and they talk about the work we do here at the Cancer Society.
