Every day 71 New Zealanders like Jo are diagnosed with cancer.
Jo’s life has been turned upside down by bowel cancer. Her greatest fear is for her children – particularly the possibility of her not being around for them.
Jo was utterly shattered when her doctor told her that she had stage 4 bowel cancer:
“I was in a lot of shock trying to process it all,” Jo said. “I couldn’t stop thinking about my children and thinking I’m going to die. I was so consumed with fear for my kids.”.
From being fit, healthy, and outdoorsy pre-cancer, Jo now needs both practical and emotional support to cope with treatment, fatigue and the full impact cancer brings.
Thankfully, Jo receives much-needed support and care from her Cancer Society nurse Marie. This is only made possible by the support we receive from generous New Zealanders wanting to make a difference.
Watch Jo talk about her heart-breaking and inspiring cancer journey here.
