About the role | Mō te tūranga
The Cancer Society Wellington Division, Hutt Valley hub is looking to hire a Kaiārahi Tīma Whānau Ora to join our team on a full-time basis (37.5 hours per week) to make a difference in the lives of people with cancer.
This role will be based primarily in Lower Hutt, with flexibility to work in other Cancer Society Greater Wellington hubs (Newtown/Porirua/Kāpiti).
The Kaiārahi Tīma Whānau Ora will lead in assessing hapori (community) needs, working in collaboration with hapori providers to develop and deliver appropriate kaupapa that will help reduce the incidence and impact of matepukupuku (cancer) for Māori, Pasifika, and other minority groups.
Based in our hapori (community), this role is also designed to provide hands-on leadership and mentoring for our kaimahi working in the hapori.
Key Responsibilities:
· Lead and support the delivery of Supportive care programmes in Te Whanganui-a-Tara
· Develop an operational plan for our hapori kaupapa, and contribute to the development of divisional strategic plans in relation to our Cancer Services
· Lead kaimahi in providing support and information for tangata whenua experiencing matepukupuku (cancer), their whānau, hapū in Te Whanganui-a-Tara
· Establish and maintain relationships with Māori health providers in the region
· Drive the engagement with Māori, Pasifika, and other vulnerable groups in hapori experiencing larger health inequalities
· Work actively to reduce health inequalities for Māori, Pasifika, and other vulnerable groups experiencing matepukupuku (cancer)
About you:
To be successful in this role you will have -
· A current registration as a healthcare professional (Nurse, Social Worker, Counsellor, Psychologist, or others) with practicing certificate; comparable community experience may be considered for the right candidate
· At least 5 years clinical experience preferably in a Kaupapa Māori role
· Actively engaged within the local Iwi, and Pasifika communities in the Te Whanganui-a-Tara
· Committed to achieving equitable health outcomes for Māori
· Proven experience working within Māori whānau-centred models of practice
· In depth knowledge and understanding of the health needs of Māori, Pasifika, and other vulnerable groups
· Experience in providing cultural advice and support, with strengths in training, facilitating and supporting cultural competence and responsiveness to Māori
