Through the words and encouragement of my Cancer Society support person Sharon, I am focused and determined to once again fight and win the battle.

Robert

Hi, my name is Robert. I’ve been staying at Daffodil House in Christchurch while I received treatment.

30 years of Daffodil Day 30 years of Daffodil Day

I’ve had bowel cancer and I was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer. Through the words and encouragement of my Cancer Society support person Sharon, I am focused and determined to once again fight and win the battle. During the hard times, she is always there with comforting words and a warm smile.

The radiation therapists are so very special. Each day they greet me with a smile and reassurance. The other day when I was feeling anxious my radiation therapist Rebekah comforted me by singing to me. As I closed my eyes her words made my worries disappear and I felt like I was floating on a cloud. These special people, full of love and compassion, help me fight again with the belief that I will win.

30 Stories for 30 Years

In 2020 the Cancer Society celebrated the 30th anniversary of Daffodil Day.

It also marked a 30 year relationship with ANZ as the Principal Sponsor of Daffodil Day. We want to thank the team at ANZ for their amazing support.

To acknowledge this we found 30+ people to tell their story. These stories talk about the generosity of everyday New Zealanders making a difference for people with cancer. They talk about the effect of cancer on people and on whānau, they talk about hope, and they talk about the work we do here at the Cancer Society.
