HE MANA TŌ TE MĀTAURANGA
KNOWLEDGE IS STRENGTH
This Kia ora – e Te iwi event had a small number of participants, owing to two tangis that clashed , however the day was well received, and there was some really interesting kōrero.
One of the participants is receiving immunotherapy monthly which she commutes to Cairns Australia for as she used to live there and it is funded in Australia. She was a very positive woman, and contributed a great deal of useful information to the day.
One of the kaumatua in attendance also reminded us to always be positive in talking about cancer. We had people there from the local Hospice and we were joined by women from Toiora who travel around Northland in an old ambulance, raising awareness about cardiovascular disease. The prevention of cardiovascular disease is similar to cancer prevention so this is a useful collaboration.
The Auckland Cancer Research centre again supported the event with the presence of Professor Michael Hay to talk about what cancer is, and we had a speaker form Dargaville hospice also.
