Young individuals impacted by cancer frequently encounter distinct obstacles in comparison to older individuals. Financial burdens, concerns about fertility, and limited availability of specialised support for this age group are also prevalent challenges. The effects of cancer on a young person's life can have far-reaching consequences, necessitating tailored care and support to address their specific requirements and assist them in navigating their path towards recovery.

Amber Arkell, our Centre Manager at the Wairarapa Cancer Society, understands firsthand the challenges of being diagnosed with breast cancer at a young age. She is passionate about supporting other young individuals and helping them navigate life after treatment.

Are you looking to connect with other young individuals (45 and under) who have experienced or are currently navigating a cancer diagnosis? We are currently accepting expressions of interest to organise a support group at a convenient time for those interested in joining.

If you would like to get involved or have any questions, please reach out to Amber at ambera@cancersoc.org.nz.

We understand that when a family member receives a cancer diagnosis, it affects everyone. We recognise that your loved one is your main concern, but it's also crucial to take care of yourself.

This support group is specifically designed for individuals who are offering practical or emotional assistance to someone navigating a cancer diagnosis.

If you know someone in your circle who could benefit from connecting with others in similar roles, please pass along this invitation to them.

Held on the first Thursday of every month at The Old Courthouse Carterton. The meeting times vary, so mark your calendars for the upcoming dates:

1st February at 5pm,

7th March at 10:30 am,

4th April at 5:00pm,
