A proud mother of three, Julie went in for a routine bowel screening — and life changed in an instant. What she thought was a minor issue turned out to be an aggressive cancer diagnosis.
A proud mother of three, Julie went in for a routine bowel screening — and life changed in an instant. What she thought was a minor issue turned out to be an aggressive cancer diagnosis.
“There was never a moment of ‘Why me?’ I just thought, ‘Okay. This has happened. How do I deal with it? How do I fight it?’”
Through the toughest days of treatment, Julie found strength in the kindness and care of her Cancer Society nurse, Naomi, who checked in regularly and even delivered a care package when Julie’s hair began to thin. That support made a lasting impact.
“I felt so blessed. So supported.”
Help a New Zealander through their toughest fight today.
It’s what inspired Julie to leave a gift to the Cancer Society in her Will, a legacy of love and compassion for others who may one day walk the same path.
“When I found out they survive on donations, I knew I had to. You need to keep going people like me need this kind of support.”
Julie is continuing embracing life with gratitude, spending time with loved ones, volunteering, and planning a special pilgrimage to Europe. Her legacy gift is a way of giving back, a promise that others facing cancer will have the same care, support, and strength she received
