Volunteer sets the sky as the limit

An active volunteer of the Cancer Society Wellington, Clive Norman, has decided that age 75 is not too old to jump out of a plane to raise funds for the Cancer Society.

Much to the dismay of his daughter, Clive will be taking part in Jump For Cancer, a national fundraising event that pushes people to new heights (9,000ft in the air to be exact). The Cancer Society has partnered with 9 skydive companies across New Zealand to offer people a free skydive when they raise $1000.

Clive has been a volunteer of the Cancer Society for over 6 years, driving people to their appointments, visiting patients in their homes and spreading awareness about the Cancer Society as a Volunteering Ambassador. Because of this, he has a pretty good sense of how the Cancer Society helps people and sees on a daily basis the positive impact their support has on people’s lives.

“After a close friend passed away from cancer, I got involved with the Cancer Society as I wanted to give my time to an important cause. Without the help of volunteers, the Cancer Society wouldn’t be able to deliver its services. It doesn’t feel like a job to me, and my wife is happy that it gets me out of the house, said Clive.

When the topic of Jump For Cancer came up, Clive thought “why not?” and got to work raising money amongst his peers. He also popped in to see his local GP to make sure he was fit and able to do the jump.

Clive will and 14 other fundraisers will jump the 28th of May in Taupo, joined also by his wife who will be anxiously watching from the ground.

“Skydiving is always one of those things that you think about, and to be able to do it above Taupo means I'll be able to enjoy some incredible views. However, the best part about this is the opportunity to raise funds for the Cancer Society”.

So far, Clive has raised over $1,000, earning him his free jump. If you would like to support Clive’s bravery, you can do so here:  https://jumpforcancer.org.nz/clive-norman

Thanks Clive, we love your mahi!
