The Northland Cancer Lodge will transform cancer care in our region, like never before, and help patients stay closer to treatment and closer to their whānau. It will ease long, stressful travel outside of the region and provide welcoming accommodation in Whangārei. The lodge will reduce pressure on families, strengthen local support, and reshape cancer care for Northlanders for generations.
This lodge is more than bricks and mortar — it’s a place of hope, dignity and connection
Long travel, time away from whānau, and the cost of staying far from home make treatment even harder. Having a place to stay near Whangārei Hospital will ease that burden and keep families connected throughout their treatment journey.
The lodge will offer:
- 20 modern bedroom suites for comfort and rest
- Communal spaces for connection and support
- Patient wellness and fitness space
- Shared meeting spaces for clinicians, support providers, and community partners
- Walking‑distance to Whangārei Hospital and the Jim Carney Cancer Centre
- A warm, welcoming environment inspired by Auckland’s Domain Lodge
This is a space where people who have to travel long distances to get to critical hospital treatment can focus on healing, without the weight of travel or isolation. With community backing, it will support generations of Northlanders.
