We are delighted to introduce Lesley Roy, the wonderful volunteer who leads our Monday morning Relaxation Group.
Lesley grew up in a family where giving back was simply part of life, and she has carried that spirit into an impressive history of community involvement.
Since 2001 she has contributed her time and energy to organisations including Mackenzie Tourism, Central South Island Tourism, Fairlie Yoga, the Fairlie Vehicle Trust, and the Aoraki Foundation.
In 2020, Lesley was invited to take over the South Canterbury Cancer Society’s Relaxation (Meditation) Class. Five and a half years later, the group has become a treasured part of the centre’s weekly rhythm.
Alongside this, Lesley still finds time to bake and deliver treats for Good Bitches Baking, always ready to help wherever she sees an opportunity.
Supported by her husband Malcolm and their children, Lesley continues to be a steady, positive presence in the community.
When asked what motivates her, Lesley shared, “This group are my inspiration. They fill my cup.”
She admires the grace and positivity the members bring to life’s challenges and considers it an honour to spend time with them. She often says she gets just as much from the group as they get from her.
Lesley’s message to others considering volunteering is simple and heartfelt:
Get involved. Connect with your community. Live every day – grab every day.
We are incredibly grateful for Lesley’s warmth, generosity and the joy she brings to our centre.
