Margaret Stewart House provides you with a place to stay if you’re from out-of-town and having cancer treatment at the Wellington Blood and Cancer Centre. The house is located in the grounds of Wellington Regional Hospital in Newtown, Wellington.

How do I stay at Margaret Stewart House?
You can stay Margaret Stewart House if you are having treatment for cancer or attending hospital appointments related to a cancer diagnosis.
You need an accommodation referral letter from your local hospital or the Wellington Blood and Cancer Centre (Phone 04 385 5999 ex 5303).
You can bring a support person with you as long as you share a room. You need to be able to look after yourself or have a supporter with you.
Children under 18 years old can't stay with you but are welcome to visit.

About Margaret Stewart House
- When we receive your referral letter from the hospital we will send you a letter letting you know about your booking.
- Weekday check-in is between 2:00pm – 4:00pm
- Weekend check-in is between 10:00am – 1:30pm
- If you plan to arrive before the standard check-in time, please contact us in advance, early check-in is subject to room availability, but we will do our best to accommodate your request.
- We have limited parking available.
- Meals are not provided. We have a communal kitchen, dining, and living areas.
- Margaret Stewart House is a smokefree and alcohol-free environment.
- There are house supervisors on-site during weekdays and weekends. We also have a fantastic team of volunteers to make your stay comfortable.

What should I bring?
We provide many of the daily essentials, however, remember to bring some comfortable clothes, chargers for your devices, personal hygiene products, food, washing powder, and whatever you prefer to keep yourself busy. If you have any questions about something you’d like to bring, reach out to us prior to your arrival.
What if I start to feel unwell before my stay?
You need to be able to look after to look after yourself to stay at Margaret Stewart House. If your situation has changed since you booked to stay with us, please give us a call and we can discuss.
How can I get around?
There is a bus stop nearby. You can either pay with cash or purchase a Snapper card from nearby dairies and supermarkets. Wellington also has taxis and various ride share services.
How close will I be to the hospital?
We are 450 meters from the hospital, or a 5 minute walk. If you need assistance, we have mobility scooters or a shuttle service that can get you to your hospital appointments.

If you live 100km or more from Wellington Regional Hospital you may qualify for the Ministry of Health Travel and Accommodation (NTA) scheme and there will be no charge to you.
